6mm Training

6mm Training is a new term used to describe a type of equipment which many people are already very aware of, however, have not thought of for professional and high end training due to the fact that the entry level versions of this equipment can be used by children; 6mm training refers to the use of high end Airsoft guns.

Due to the relatively low velocity of Airsoft equipment and its reduction in penetration ability when compared to other firearm training options, it is ideal for use indoors as well as for those who are new to weapons training.

Airsoft equipment

Airsoft guns are replica guns designed to be used in airsoft sports. They are low-powered smoothbore air guns designed to shoot non-metallic spherical projectiles often referred to as “BBs”, which are typically made of (but not limited to) plastic or biodegradable resin materials.

Airsoft guns are designed to have low muzzle energy ratings (generally less than 1.5 -2 J, or 1.1 ft⋅lb) and the pellets have significantly less penetrative and stopping powers when compared to conventional airguns, therefore making them safe for competitive sporting and recreational purposes if proper protective equipment is worn.

A reliable and tested training system

Airsoft guns have a reputation for being ‘cheap and plastic’ and whilst this can be true for the ones sold as toys, there are also many high end quality airsoft guns produced; some being specifically produced for training purposes and modelled on real world firearms. This equipment often match’s the weight and consistency of the real firearm very closely and often includes large amounts of metal to create a more robust and realistic weapon.

Depending on the design mechanism for pellet propulsion, airsoft guns can be categorized into two groups: mechanical, which consists of a coil spring-loaded piston air pump that is either manually cocked (e.g. spring guns) or automatically cycled by a battery-powered electric motor gearbox (e.g. AEGs); and pneumatic, which operates by valve-controlled release of prefilled bottled gas such as compressed propane mixed with silicone oil (commonly known as “Green Gas”) or CO2 canisters.

A cost effective training solution

As airsoft is such a big recreational activity in the UK, sourcing good quality airsoft equipment is a relatively easy and cost effective option for firearms training in the UK. One of the biggest advantages to Airsoft equipment is that due to the commercial success of airsoft as a recreational activity, there are airsoft guns which replicate a huge variety of real world firearms including less common firearms which can provide a wide variety of scenarios depending on the desired training outcomes.

Due to the relatively low velocity of Airsoft equipment and its reduction in penetration ability when compared to other firearm training options, it is ideal for use indoors as well as for those who are new to weapons training.

Get in touch and see how we can help

Dependant on the exact requirements of the training and considering the need for realism, the location being used and budget, the equipment used can be varied to meet exacting requirements. We are able to utilise a variety of pyrotechnic, non-pyrotechnic and blank fire munitions to accommodate these requirements as well as to comply with different organisations safety requirements. All of the equipment that we use is tested by the manufacturers to comply with various safety regulations for use within the United Kingdom and is operated by trained and insured individuals. With the range of realistic and immersive equipment that we are able to provide, we believe we offer excellent opportunities to increase the realism of a variety of training.
If you train with firearms or offer experiences where realistic and firing weapons and/or pyrotechnics could help improve the realism and quality of training, please message or call to discuss your requirements and how we may be able to assist.
